Excuses -poem

So, you like making up excuses,

Living up to them, fullheartedly?

My truth is just one truth, you say,

robbing it of all its meaning.

So, you like to build bridges

to burn them after?

Passing judgement as a tiger

condemns its innocent prey.

Yes, I’m weak, yes, I fell

Into the trap of your charm.

Yes, I failed to conquer

your predator’s heart.

Only I didn’t come to conquer

but to let myself be conquered.

I wasn’t hunting you down,

but letting myself be vulnerable.

So, you want to move on

to new adventures?

This one is stale, you need

a new kill to satisfy your hunger?

Your loyalty is only to yourself,

to your need to be good at what you do.

You’re bad at conquering what’s already surrendered,

so you leave, making up excuses.
