Farewells- by Juan M.S

Some words we should not say

some things are not in play,

betting our lives everyday.

better not to get too excited

if we don’t know how to stay

and keep ourselves ignited

throughout the constant sway.

Your song, my verses, all

are empty farewells

which into oblivion fall

set to wane or else

we forget to be together

once again and forever.

But what’s there to get

in some promise yet

of proven happiness,

nothing more to try,

our smiles and anger belie

the state of our souls

still looking for a why.

And life’s irreverence

towards what we cherish

and its constant severance

leaving all to perish,

while we bet the same

in this constant game.

Some words we should not say

some things are not in play,

staking our lives today

and better tomorrow

spare ourselves some sorrow

and stop before we tell

a mutual farewell.
